
Chris Doherty
Vice President, Pharmaceutical Analytical R&D
Chris graduated from Bradford University (UK) with a BSc Pharmacy and PhD in Pharmaceutical Technology. He started his career as a Postdoctoral fellow at the University of Toronto before joining Glaxo in Canada. He then moved to their manufacturing organisation in the UK before joining Roche as Head of Pharmacy R&D at their UK centre. He also completed a MBA qualification as part of continual development.
Chris joined AstraZeneca Charnwood in 1997 as Head of Product Development and then became Director, Product Development for the Charnwood (UK) and Lund (Sweden) sites. In 2003, Chris was promoted to Vice President for Pharmaceutical Analytical R&D leading teams at Macclesfield/Alderley Park (UK), Wilmington (US), and from 2006 this has included Charnwood (UK). These sites cover circa 500 people in the UK and 140 people in the US.
Chris maintains strong external links to academia and was a founding director, and former Chairman, of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Chris is an Executive Board member of EUFEPS and a Visiting Professor at the London School of Pharmacy.
His professional interests include integrating pharmaceutical development into the wider drug development process, working on the technology transfer process to manufacturing, and developing new areas of expertise in biotechnology and information technology.
His personal leadership style blends a strong delivery focus with a progressive and very people centric approach to achieving business goals. Chris remains passionate about the innovative science that underpins the discovery and development of pharmaceuticals and the contribution medicines make to patients and wider society.
